Hair today, gone on Friday! Ian’s close shave with Marie Curie

We are all very precious about our hair, whether we have flowing shoulder-length locks or just enough to keep our head dry. Wade Financial’s Ian Little has a decent head of hair, but not for long. On Friday, the financial planner will be getting it all lopped off in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Ian is no stranger to the charity, having raised four figures for their cause so far ahead of a trek across the Canadian Rockies. The trip of a lifetime takes place in a fortnight, but the financial planner will be heading Stateside without his trademark barnet.

“I’ve always wanted to do the Rockies, so it made sense to combine a passion of mine with a cause close to my heart, but this is a little different,” says Ian. “Hair is such an important part of identity. One client told me that she was more apprehensive of losing her hair than undergoing a double mastectomy. That says it all for me.”

The team at Marie Curie are there for cancer sufferers and their families in those dark days, their care and support helping those with terminal illnesses make the most of the time they have left. “The support they offer is absolutely fantastic, and vital to so many people. They have been there for clients, friends and family members, and continue to provide hands-on care and emotional support for tens of thousands of people.”

Ian has, through the decades, gone through all the fads and the styles, but Friday will mark the first time that he has ever had a no-guard haircut. “A short back and sides in the RAF was the closest I’ve ever come to going bald!” he laughs.

“But to be honest, this experience isn’t about me. It’s about the thousands of people who have to lose part of their identity to terminal diseases. If shaving my head can raise awareness and financial support for those who need it, I’ll be very happy indeed – even if it’s a bit chilly up top for a few weeks!”
