West Allotment Celtic Ladies rounded out their debut 2018/19 campaign with a trophy, lifting the Wade Financial Pin Point League Cup last month.
WAC saw off the challenge of Wallsend Ladies Reserves, overturning an early two-goal deficit to run out impressive 5-2 winners.
The sensational knockout victory is another sign of the team's remarkable progress, having only moved into full-team matches ahead of the 2017/18. The side came under the West Allotment Celtic umbrella in 2019, and have marked their debut season as an official WAC outfit with a cup victory.
“We're immensely proud of this fantastic team,” says coach David Dodds, who is also a financial planner at Wade Financial.
“The core group have been together for a number of years, and it's been great seeing them develop from the junior ranks over the years. There's fantastic camaraderie between all of the players, and they've all worked so hard for this success. They could have given up when they went two goals down, but they stuck in there and showed everyone what they can do.”
Wade Financial have been involved with West Allotment Celtic for a number of years, providing the Tyneside outfit with financial support as club sponsors. In recent seasons, Allotment have bounced back from difficult times and ground relocation to finish a respectable sixth place in 2018/19.
“We've always been proud to support one of our local clubs, especially one so committed to developing junior and grassroots teams,” says David. “Allotment have backed the growth of girls' and women's teams in recent seasons, and this League Cup success shows that the club is moving in the right direction.”
After a fantastic debut season, West Allotment Celtic Ladies are looking for quality players to join the team in their quest for promotion next year. Allotment play on grass pitches and have use of the changing rooms and clubhouse at Percy Park. Subs are £100 per player, with all kit provided, free food at every home game, and no fundraising.
